Product Summary
Mataverde Therma Wood Hemlock Decking is a high-performance thermally modified decking material. The product is well suited for exterior decking, siding and trim. Because less energy is used in the thermal modification process, the cost is lower, yet the quality, and performance, is higher.
Mataverde Therma Wood Hemlock Decking is available in 5/4 x 6 nominal decking. Lengths are offered 8' through 20' odd and even lengths, random length tallies only. Most of the material is in the 8' through 13' range. 14' though 20' lengths are also offered, in limited quantities, when they are available.
Construction and Materials
Mataverde offers premium wood decking solutions crafted from high-quality, sustainably sourced hardwoods. The brand specializes in two primary types of decking: classic hardwood and thermally modified wood.
Hardwood Decking
Mataverde's classic hardwood decking is renowned for its exceptional durability, natural beauty, and resistance to wear and tear. These hardwoods are chosen for their dense grain structure, which provides superior stability and longevity compared to softer wood species.
- Materials: Typically includes species such as Ipe, Cumaru, Tigerwood, and Massaranduba. These are dense tropical hardwoods known for their rich colors, intricate grain patterns, and inherent resistance to rot, decay, and insect infestation.
- Construction: The decking boards are milled to precise dimensions, ensuring a consistent profile for ease of installation. They are available in various lengths and profiles to accommodate different design needs. The dense nature of these woods allows for a strong and stable deck structure.
Thermally Modified Wood Decking
Mataverde's thermally modified wood decking represents an innovative approach to enhancing the natural properties of wood. This process involves heating wood at high temperatures in a controlled environment, which significantly alters its cell structure, making it more stable and durable.
- Materials: Common wood species used for thermal modification include Ash and Pine. While these are naturally less dense than tropical hardwoods, the thermal modification process imbues them with characteristics comparable to premium hardwoods.
- Construction: The thermal modification process makes the wood less susceptible to moisture absorption and dimensional changes, resulting in a more stable and longer-lasting deck. This process also enhances the wood's natural resistance to rot, decay, and insect attack without the use of chemicals. The resulting boards exhibit a rich, uniform color and a smooth, splinter-free surface.
General Construction & Installation Considerations
Regardless of the wood type, Mataverde decking is designed for robust construction. The installation typically involves:
- Substructure: A sturdy substructure made of pressure-treated lumber or aluminum is essential to support the decking boards and ensure the longevity of the deck.
- Fastening Systems: Mataverde decking is compatible with various fastening systems, including hidden fasteners and traditional screws. The choice of fastener can influence the overall aesthetic and maintenance requirements of the deck. Hidden fasteners offer a clean, screw-free surface for a more streamlined appearance.
- Finishing: While many of Mataverde's hardwoods can be left to weather naturally to a silvery patina, they can also be sealed or oiled to maintain their original rich color and luster. Thermally modified woods also benefit from appropriate finishing products to protect their color and enhance their natural beauty.

Mataverde offers premium wood decking solutions designed for durability, beauty, and superior performance. The primary style options available under the Mataverde brand revolve around the specific wood species that undergo their proprietary thermal modification process. - Natural Beauty: A richer, deeper color tone and a smoother surface finish.
- Environmental Friendliness: No chemicals are used in the thermal modification process, making it an eco-conscious choice.
Mataverde's thermally modified wood decking is available in several distinct wood species, each offering unique visual characteristics:
- Thermally Modified Ash: This option provides a warm, inviting look with a prominent grain pattern. The thermal modification process deepens the natural tan to a rich, chocolate brown hue. It is known for its excellent hardness and stability, making it suitable for high-traffic areas.
- Thermally Modified Poplar: Offering a lighter, more neutral color palette, Thermally Modified Poplar presents a subtle grain and a sophisticated appearance. It transforms from its natural pale yellow to a pleasant warm brown, providing a versatile backdrop for various outdoor designs. Its lightness also makes it easier to handle and install.
Each of these wood species, when subjected to thermal modification, delivers a decking material that not only withstands the elements but also elevates the aesthetic of any outdoor environment. The resulting product is a durable, stable, and visually appealing decking choice that requires minimal maintenance to retain its beauty over time.
